The slides above show the month that the field was harvested. The 2017 slide shows that there were quite a few new sugar cane plantings that year.  This reduced the yield for that year. As the 2019 harvest was not completed a number of fields are still unharvested - displayed in olive.

The slides above show the newly planted fields - those with a minimum green value early in the year.  As the 2019 harvest was not completed when the analysis was done minimum values could not be determined for that year.

The Normalized Burn Ration (NBR) was calculated using the band 11 (slides on the left) and band 12 (slides on the right). An increase in the value of the NBR prior to harvest is an indicator that a burn has occurred.

Quality

The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index is a simple graphical indicator that can be used as a measure of plant health in remote sensing. In the context of sugarcane cultivation, it gives us a sense of the quality of the crop captured in the image.

The NDVI values for the given area have been plotted below. Select a fortnight and hover over the image to find out the NDVI value for that area. For a more granular view, click and drag to select an area of interest to zoom into.
